Parked in the Economic Development Zone in Hainan, Haikou , Guilin Yang Yingge WIG Manufacturing Co., Ltd. ( referred to Hainan Yingge Company ) plant, the "big guy " is one of the first WIG . Although it is " landlubbers “parked on land, but it is flying like an eagle in water, with speed of 210 km / hour. There are only three of WIGs, and they all set in Hainan.

" Big guy” is like a boat and a aircraft.

Within the Hainan Yingge company’s plant , parked a silver body , orange propeller big guy. This " big guy” is about 15 meters and a width of 20 meters, nearly three meters high . From the outside, it looks like seaplane : with a fuselage cabin, wing mounted on both sides and the head wore two large propellers, two rows of buoys at the bottom, also has a tail . Two staircases embedded on each side of the main body for boarding. Door can be opened from both sides , a total of 12 seats inside , two are the driver's seat , 10 are passenger seat.

"This is our second WIG , we have already completed the external structure, we are planing the whole circuits. “ Hainan Yingge person in charge Gu Jianxin said, China's only three WIG Boats have been R & D , the first one has already been successfully tested , the second and third will be ready in December this year and next year in March, all of these boats is been built in Hainan.

It is understood that WIG use ground effect principle to fly the vessel. In April this year , the first WIG run through a successful test flight in the South China Sea , the technology filled the blank in China's WIG field.

In the water near Guilin Yang , the reporter saw the first developed WIG "CGY-11". Blue and white hull , wore bright orange propeller, aft printed eagle pattern , looks dignified.

Speaking of driving WIG , Yingge company staff Dong Huang said the two big bow propeller WIG is dual powered, so the operation also requires primary and secondary pilots . Boarding the vessel and buckle up the seatbelt , close the door and confirm communications works properly,propeller engine begins preheating . After propeller reaches a predetermined number of revolutions , simply push the lever , WIG can be driven into the sea , accelerates in the wave of the tide. " It felt like when you riding motorboat, it flow with the tide, it is really enjoyable ." Huang Dong said.

After acceleration, WIG will "float " on the sea into the flight condition . "Then the feeling is just as comfortable as seating on a plane , there is no boat bumps ." Huang Dong said.

Cost 20 million per vessel

The WIG craft can take off on a smooth surface ,the construction of a large runway and terminal facilities are not needed. Smooth and comfortable flight, flight speed up to 210 kilometers per hour , is10-15 times speed of ship, 3-5 times speed of speedboat .

" WIG ship run more smoothly compared with the ordinary ship, higher safety compared to plane." Gu Jianxin said. The maximum flying altitude of WIG is up to 100m , under normal circumstanceWIG operates at a level of 3 to 5 meters in order to maintain the most comfortable state, in case of failure, you can slowly landed on the sea, floating on the buoy.

Technologically advanced WIG , fuel used is ordinary gasoline. According to the monitoring report, WIG consume 28 liters/100KM , with an average fuel consumption of 0.28 liters per kilometer , price of 93 # gasoline is 8.63 yuan per liter , costs 2.4yuan per km.

In the scope of application , WIG has much to offer in many environments such as sea, ice , deserts, grasslands , swamps.

Gu Jianxin told reporters that innovative design and high-tech research making the development of WIG craft expensive, cost about $ 20 million per vessel . Current developed three WIGs are 12 sets, carrying capacity is 1200 kg . According to reports, the company has completed the design of "CYG-40" and many other types, will manufacture larger ships of 35 sets and 40 sets. According to market needs , also we could customize according to customer's preferences in seats , hull , cabin amenities for a unique, private boat.

"The current technology research and development has been tested to be successful, the nest step is mass production, the goal is to focus in tourism, freight , maritime search and rescue and other aspects ." Gu Jianxin said

At present, the development of WIG craft is facing the problems of scarcity of pilot . There are less than 10 qualified WIG pilots in China . In order to solve this problem , the company introduced the implementation of talent and technology in parallel mode , plan to buildWIG pilots, amphibious aircraft pilots, maintenance personnel , operations management personnel training school.

According to the plan, the company will invest 5.5 billion Yuan in Haikou , Hainan , to build a high-tech industrial park consist of WIG craft manufacturing, pilot training, helicopter maintenance base, covering an area of about 1200 acres. Manufacturing base will include WIG research and development, design, manufacture and use of amphibious aircraft research and development, design, manufacture and use; helicopter maintenance base will include m -171 helicopter maintenance and repair. Future productivity of WIG will reach 50 vessels per year, the annual output will reach 1 billion yuan .
